Occupational Therapy Assistant

Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) are a vital part of the treatment team. They work under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist to carry out specific treatment plans that have been designed by the OT. The initial session must first be completed with an OT.

Lisa is an occupational therapist, serving Pictou County, Antigonish, Truro and Halifax.

Lisa has a passion for understanding complex behaviour and regulation needs through sensory processing and movement. She has extensive knowledge and experience in trauma informed care and mental health, taking a client-centered and holistic approach to support individuals with their goal of feeling safe in their body and environment.

She also has experience supporting a neurodiverse population of children and adults, targeting areas such as self-care, complex behaviours, emotional regulation, executive functioning, sensory processing, and much more. Catarina Labrecque graduated from Capilano University in 2011 with a diploma as a Rehabilitation Assistant (OTA/PTA/SLPA). Since then, she has gained extensive experience working in various settings, including acute care and private practice within the community.

Catarina has nurtured a strong passion for neurology and the brain since her time at Capilano. Early in her career, she focused on stroke and brain injury rehabilitation, later expanding her expertise to neurodiversity, autism, and sensory processing and regulation.

As a member of the Kind Minds team, Catarina embraces a client-centered, collaborative, and evidence-based approach to care. She is deeply committed to continuing education, staying updated with evolving practices to best serve her clients and community. Additionally, she is a vocal advocate for neurodiversity-affirming care, emphasizing its importance as a standard across home, school, and workplace environments.
